Fresh Organic Produce for You

Today is Farm Store day! While we would like it to be all week long, for now we are open on Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m., and when people give us a call. Since we do not keep it fully stocked all week, the variety is smaller.

If you look at the Farm Store page, you will see that we have added prices. We did that because yet again someone who does not come to our Farm Store took us to task for selling food that is priced too high. After being really annoyed, we priced veggies again at the local grocery stores only to find that our produce is less expensive than much of their "conventionally" grown food.

Our produce is competitively priced. It is fresh, local, and certified organic. You can visit your vegetables, see how they are treated, and know why they taste wonderful.

Hope to see you this afternoon.

The Solstice

Sunrise:7:54 AM

Sunset:4:22 PM

Today we will have 8 hours and 28 minutes of daylight on this shortest day of the year. The other days around today are also short so there is very little difference in when the sun rises and the sun sets. Yet, starting at (about) 9:30 p.m. tonight and continuing for the next six months, each day will have a few minutes more daylight. Each day that daylight will be stronger, not the weak light of mid-winter.

In all the current fumbling around to be inclusive about the Holiday Season, few people mention the solstice. As a farmer, I want to say to all,

Happy Solstice!

CSA THIS WEEK -- LAST PFM

The last Poulsbo Farmers Market of the year is on Saturday. We will be there with our full CSA shares, and wonderful produce and meat on our cart. We have wreaths, too. If you like to decorate your own wreath, ours are for you. They are fresh cut from our forest, which is also certified organic. These wreaths are healthy to handle and have in your home. They come in cedar and Douglas fir. The last delicata squash found its eater, so we are out until next year. We plan to plant more this coming year, since they have been very popular.

In your CSA bag you will find:

  • Baby Purple Choi
  • Beets
  • Carrots — mixed dragon and yaya
  • Kale — mixed lacinato and red Russian
  • Kelly’s Leeks
  • Parsley
  • Pie Pumpkins
  • Potatoes — banana fingerlings
  • Squash
    Anna Swartz
  • Yellow Onions Bulb, from Central Washington

On the cart we will have many of the same items, however we do not sell the yellow onions, and depending on what is needed for the CSA bags we might not have a couple of other items. We will have beef and lamb.

At our Farm Store on Tuesday we will have many items, plus a few more tasty treats, plus soup bones.

Bunch of kale

2 Tbsp lemon or lime juice

1/2 Cup Avocado

3 Tbsp Olive oil

1/16 tsp (pinch) of salt

Fresh minced thyme (to taste)

Mash the avocado. Add the juice, olive oil, salt, and thyme. Mix well.

Wash the kale and cut the stems out. Cut in smaller pieces and pour the sauce on the leaves. Mix and serve.

Our kale is delicious raw or cooked.

Our family farm since 1892.

Our business was founded in 1892 and changes with the generations and the needs of our community. We decided to go into farming produce in 2004, and became WSDA/USDA certified organic in 2005. We started our CSA in 2006 and the response continues to be overwhelming
